Is there a way to make an Hermès Birkin bag better? Or at a minimum create a new version that stands out and has folks clamoring for more. If so, it’s the Hermès Birkin Sellier. A unique and more structured version of the Birkin we know and love, the Birkin Sellier began appearing on Instagram and Pinterest late last year.
We at PurseBop were one of the first to review the bag at the time. A subsequent article extensively covered reviews from our very own PurseBop community members. Read: More on the New and VERY HOT Birkin Sellier.
Just in case you’re wondering… there’s a long wait list of lusting Hermès lovers for this version of the Birkin.
But how much does the Birkin Sellier cost exactly? And how do the prices measure up against the prices of ‘regular’ Birkins?
As you can see from the chart below, the Sellier style Birkin is more expensive than the ‘regular’ Birkin. For example, it’s roughly 10% more for an Epsom Sellier Birkin over a regular one.
Why? Because crafting a structured, more rigid version of the Birkin is more complex and laborious than creating a regular Birkin. As is the case for the Sellier Kelly (as opposed to the Kelly Retourne).
We’re excited to report that Sellier Birkin is now also an option for Special Order! As a reminder, a SO Sellier Birkin will cost the same as one “off the shelf,” so to speak. There is no upcharge based solely on picking your own colors and leathers, except to the extent the leathers are more expensive (for example, exotics). However, the price will be as of time of delivery, not date of order, so fingers crossed prices don’t rise.
Regarding prices of Birkins, so far for 2021, there hasn’t been much change yet. Possibly a barely noticeable $100 increase across some sizes and leathers. Historically, Hermès increases prices 3-5% for Birkins in popular sizes annually in Jan – Feb. Prices rose 3-5% in the United States in 2019 and then again by 3% in 2020. We are keeping our eyes and ears open for further updates in the United States.
There have, however, been marginal price increases in other categories like silks, and for leather bags aside from Birkins and Kellys. The Hermès Lindy bag in a size 30 went up $100 to a revised price tag of $9250. The Bolide 31 also went up $100 to retail for $8400 and the Picotin Lock 18 too saw an increase of $75 to sell at $2725. And jewelry is reportedly up 5%.
